Clarion River Paddling Adventure, August 26-27 2017

by Lois and Larry on April 22, 2017

The Clarion River Paddling Adventure is an overnight outdoor interpretive canoeing/camping experience for families & friends. Children 12 & up must be with a participating adult. Participants should be in relatively good physical condition. At least one experienced canoeist should be in each boat. Kayakers must have prior river kayaking experience and should be confident in their navigation abilities.

Each participant must be able to be comfortable in possibly cold & wet conditions (a poorly prepared individual can potentially disrupt the experiences of the entire group). Appropriate footwear, apparel, utensils, tents, and sleeping bags are the participant’s responsibility. A list of items to bring will be included with confirmation materials.

Activities:
Weather and water conditions permitting, activities will include:
Canoeing, kayaking, birding, and fishing along the National Wild & Scenic Clarion River from Heath Pump Station to Cook Forest State Park (17 miles)
Overnight canoe camping along the river at Clear Creek State Park
Investigating lumber boom ghost towns and relics along the river
Enjoyment of local foods courtesy of Farmers Inn.

Logistics:
The adventure will begin Saturday, August 26 at 9:00 AM at the Clear Creek State Park Office on RT949 in Sigel, where participants will gather to begin the shuttle to Heath Pump Station. The float will conclude on Sunday, August 27 at 5:00 pm at Cooksburg where we will transport you back to Clear Creek.

Transportation throughout the adventure is included in the trip package. Canoes, kayaks, paddles, and PFD’s, will be provided. You must bring your own tents, sleeping bags, utensils, fishing poles & tackle.

Meals provided include Saturday lunch on the river, a buffet dinner Saturday night at the Farmers Inn, Sunday morning breakfast, and a catered lunch on Sunday provided by Farmers Inn. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be available throughout the weekend. Overnight canoe camping will be at Clear Creek State Park’s new canoe camping area with nearby washroom and shower facility.

Cost:
The total cost of the Clarion River Canoeing Adventure is $90 per person, due upon registration.
Checks or money orders should be made to ‘Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’ and sent to Cook Forest State Park (address below).

Registration deadline is August 11. Participation will be limited to sixteen people; so early registration is encouraged. Confirmation will be sent upon receipt of registration. $50.00 will be withheld from paid registration for cancellations after registration deadline.
