Friday, May 25 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.: Paul Stillman as “Ben Franklin” One of the founding fathers ofour country. Science, glass music and philosophy are only parts of Ben’s life. Bring your chairs and blankets and meet at Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater on Route 36.

Saturday, May 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Paul Stillman as “Seneca Indian” A Native American visits us from the past on his trip fromNew York as he travels south along the historic Olean Trail. Meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom on Forest Road.

Saturday, May 26 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Dale Luthringer as “1750′s French Marine” Meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom on Forest Road.

Saturday, May 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Paul Stillman as “Ethan Stillman” A musket maker for the War of 1812. Learn how the gornment contracted numerous gun makers for the war effort. Meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom on Forest Road.

Saturday, May 26 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.: Paul Stillman as “Theodore Roosevelt” Our 26th President and former Governor of New York. Learn about his fascinating life. Bring chairs and blankets and meet at the Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater on Route 36.

Sunday, May 27 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Paul Stillman as a “Colonial Craftsman” Learn how things were made during the early part of the 18th century during a quill and bamboo pen fabrication workshop. Meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Sunday, May 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.: Logging, Dogging and Hewing: An 1800′s Timber Operation Celebrate Cook Forest’s lumber heritage with Dale Luthringer by observing various tools of the trade, “in-period” costume, and “hewing to the line.” Test your skills at the two-man crosscut saw. Meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom on Forest Road.

Sunday, May 27 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.: Paul Stillman as “Galileo” Early 17th century Renaissance man, physicist, mathematician, astronomer and discoverer. Bring blankets and chairs and meet at the Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater on Route 36.

The Marienville Rod and Gun Club and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission are holding their 37th annual Children’s Fishing Rodeo on Sunday, June 3, 2012  from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  This event is held annually at Tom’s Run in Cook Forest State Park and is for children 4 to 12 years of age. Adults may assist children in accordance with the posted regulations. All prizes have been donated by area merchants.

The Tour de Forest is a an ATV leisure ride through the scenic Allegheny National Forest on designated forest roads and trails that are not usually open to ATV traffic.

The Tour de Forest has a very low difficulty level and is good for riders of all ages and experience to enjoy. This event is put together for ATV enthusiast to have the opportunity to ride and experience different areas that are not normally open to ATVs. We hope you have an enjoyable time with us.

The Tour de Forest is always scheduled on the third weekend in May and the first weekend in October.

The 2012 Dates are “Spring Ride” May 19 & 20 “Fall Ride” October 6 & 7.

The Allegheny National Forest trail permit is not required for the Tour de Forest. Tour de Forest event has a special use permit covering all riders.

The 62nd Annual Easter Sunrise Service will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2012. Each year many experience the beauty of Cook Forest while being uplifted by this interdenominational worship service.

Musicians and singers include Miranda Loll, Rachel Bendal, Rebecca Miskimmins and Robyn Young.  The officiating pastors will be Reverend Boyd Edmondson and Reverend Seth McPherson.

We hope you will join with us for this wonderful worship service at Ridge Camp in Cook Forest on Sunday April 8.

Saturday, April 28 at 900am – ‘Brew and Birding: Birding Cook Forest’

Please bring your binoculars and coffee mugs to the Park Office to start the day off with a morning interpretive hike listening for warblers, thrushes, and goshawks in one of the Northeastern United States most magnificent old growth forests. We’ll then car-pool to birding hotspots along the Clarion River. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to identify forest birds by ear. Bald eagles and osprey have been known to make an appearance. (3 hrs)

The first annual Chainsaw Carvers Round-Up and Auction in Cook Forest State Park

This year, the Cook Forest Sawmill Center for the Arts will kick off the 2012 season with an exciting new event, the Chainsaw Carvers Round-Up and Auction. Join us for this event on Friday April 20, Saturday April 21, and Sunday April 22. The Round-Up is FREE to the public.

Chainsaw carvers will be demonstrating and creating their works of art. Come watch as each piece comes to life.

On Saturday, April 21 at 4pm. there will be an auction. Visitors will have the opportunity to bid on some of the unique and beautiful pieces created during the event.

Programs at Cook Forest State Park

Friday, January 13 at 700pm – ’Snowshoe Cook Forest at Night: Fire Tower Rd’  Please bring your snowshoes and headlamps and meet at the Nuthole Cabin, located at the entrance of Ridge Camp, for an evening 3 mile interpretive snowshoe program along Fire Tower Rd to Seneca Point.  Learn how to identify animal tracks in the snow, search for the elusive AGT-Seneca Point geocache, and explore the Seneca Point cave as we snowshoe under ancient hemlock & oaks in one of Cook Forest’s premiere old growth forests.  If snow conditions aren’t good, we’ll hike instead.  Snowshoes are not required, although we will have a few pair on hand.  Hot  chocolate and a luke-warm cabin will be available to warm us up!  (3hrs)

Saturday, January 14 at 1030am – ‘Cross Country Ski Cook Forest: Log Cabin InnSwinging Bridge’     Please bring your cross country skis and meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Center for an interpretive cross country ski trip within the picturesque Tom’s Run Valley.  Learn how to identify animal tracks in the snow as you ski within the old growth forest at the base of the Forest Cathedral.  If the snow conditions aren’t good, we’ll hike instead.  Hot chocolate and a luke-warm  center will be available to warm us up!  (2hrs)

Saturday, February 18 – ’Snowman in the Forest Day’
Come join us for a day of fun wintry activities along the picturesque National Wild & Scenic Clarion river within Cook Forest State Park.  Various activities will be held at the Ice Skating Pond, along River Road approximately 1-mile up-river from the Park Office:

1130am-230pm – Antlered reindeer pulled wagon rides

1130am-1245pm – Snowshoe interpretive hike within the old growth forest along Cook Trail

100pm-215pm  – Snowshoe interpretive hike within the old growth forest along Cook Trail

It will be a wonderful day for the family to enjoy ice skating, sled riding, and a snowman building contest (pray for snow).

Come sample the chili during the ‘Free Chili Cook-OFF’, that is, after the judges have tried some first.  Hot chocolate, coffee, fire, and a warming hut will be on hand to help take the “chill” out of your bones.
