Great family reunion

We had 26 family members stay in various cabins for 3 nights. We were in Hemlock Haven. It was beyond our expectations. Larry and Lois were very accommodating for a group our size. We had a very memorable week-end. Planning on going there again for next reunion. A lot to do in that area.

Thank you for staying with us! Your family was a pleasure to have as guests. We are pleased that you enjoyed our cabins and Cook Forest State Park. Your kind words are also appreciated.
Just give us a call when you are ready to rebook! We look forward to your next visit.

Lovely Stay

Had a lovely stay at Top Hill Cabins! I was amazed at how clean and relatively bug free. Grass and undergrowth around the cabin was well controlled which I am sure contributed to lack of bugs, spiders and snakes (oh my!). My husband and I had several lovely walks down the adjacent country roads and an exhilarating hike through the Cathdral Natural Area within Cook Forest. As a native of Western Pa, I have been to Cook Forest a number of times over the years, but for my Ohio born husband, this was the first time. No doubt he thoroughly enjoyed our stay and is looking forward to regular returns.

Thank you, Chris, for the great review. We do work on the bugs, spiders and flies but can't get rid of all of them. We hope you do return again.

Never having been to Cook Forest, my husband and I picked a cabin based on whether or not the residence allowed dogs. Top of the Hill Cabins does allow dogs, and we were able to make reservations perhaps only six weeks before our stay.

Although the cabin we stayed in, Sugar Pine, is not secluded in the woods like most of the other cabins at Top of the Hill Cabins, it does have air conditioning, which was fabulous for a hot July day. I didn’t worry about the dog overheating when we left him in his crate to listen to the live music (Sundays and Tuesdays) at the restaurant adjacent to the property (End of the Trail, I think it’s called). Though near the road, the setting was ridiculously peaceful. Hardly any cars drove by, and we rarely saw any people when we were there, which was a Monday to Wednesday. The trail heads are a brief 3-10 minute ride from the Cabins. And although several cabin sites in other rental areas are adjacent to the river, many of those vacationers had to supply all of their own things: camp stove, coffee pot, etc. Several had common shower and restroom facilities.

In contrast, the Top of the Hill Cabins have everything any traveler might want. I was disappointed to realize I had left my wine opener at home, but happy to find a wine opener in a kitchen drawer. And honestly, if I hadn’t found one, I could have texted Larry and Lois and I am positive that they would have brought over their own! The cabin was equipped so I could really cook whatever I wanted and there was plenty of room in the refrigerator for the food I had packed in two coolers. If you haven’t been to this area, it’s pretty secluded. There are a few camp stores, but I would advise planning meals and packing much of what you might want.

The website clearly describes that the cottage is an efficiency, which was plenty of room for two people, a dog crate, and a dog. A person could easily switch out the dog crate for a pack and play. The large front porch and covered back porch double the cabin’s size. We ate at the picnic table on the back deck each day. We didn’t get a chance to use the gazebo swing or the fire pit, but the entire set up was great. The satellite TV worked perfectly fine. I had some trouble figuring out the DVD player, so when I texted Larry and Lois at 9:00 PM to ask if there was a trick to the TV remote, before I got a reply, Larry came over personally to check the TV to find that another renter had switched the cables, so we had to select a different input which we hadn’t already tried.

In addition, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin. The pine walls and ceiling feel rustic, but the cabin is brand new. The bathroom is quite large with the tub. All in all, I would definitely stay at the Top of the Hill Cabins again.

Kate: That is a great review! Thank you for taking the time to write this. It will certainly be helpful for others trying to decide where to stay!

Maple Grove Cabin

We Love the cabin, Maple Grove Cabin. Great place to stay, besides the hot water running out on us in the shower. The place is lovely and we will book it again no doubt on that. My kids enjoy it.Larry is a great guy.

Thank you for the review. Larry has managed to get the water issue resolved. It had something to do with the Hot Water Tank being new. You would have to ask him. Hope to see you again in the future. Lois

Sunburst Locust Cabin 2nd Stay

My family stayed in the Sunburst cabin for the 2nd time and loved it just as much as the 1st time. The big yard area is great for the kids to play in and the cabin itself along with the annex cabin gives the whole family plenty of room so everyone is comfortable. The owners are wonderful and very friendly to work with. Looking forward to coming back again....

Beth: We appreciated your second visit very much. Thank you for the review.

Loved it

We stayed in Red Maple cabin. To date, this is by far the best cabin we have stayed in. We loved the privacy too. Highly recommend it.

We love that you stayed in Red Maple Cabin and we are so happy that you enjoyed it. Thank you.

Highly recommend

If you are looking for a cabin in a wonderful forest setting, I highly recommend Top Hill Cabins. My wife, myself ,and our dog prefer Sugar Pine Cottage.
Very well maintained, knotty pine decor, with all the modern amenities. It is basically an efficiency set up,and it is perfect for us. Love to explore the many local trails in Cook Forest, relax on the porch, and enjoy meals at the Trails End restaurant that sits next to entrance of property. Looking forward to our next visit.

Old hickory

My family and I stayed at the old hickory cabin April 27-30th 2018 we have been to cook forest every year now for the past 4 yrs and this was the nicest cabin we have stayed at . It wasn't as secluded as we thought but it was still nice and quiet and had plenty of woods to enjoy. There could have been a few more plates, coffee cups and the shower could have sprayed better but it wasn’t bad. We usually don’t go this early in the year but decided to go and I’m glad we went here we have never had tv when we’ve been there but since it was pretty cold out one of the days we were there it was nice to stay in watch tv and play our card games. I look forward to coming back and staying at one of your cabins again. The Gould’s

Old Hickory Cabin

My daughter and I stayed in Old Hickory at the end of March. The cabin decor was beautiful and every room was clean. This is the first time I've stayed in a cabin with satellite TV and what a blessing it was. Two of the days we were there, the weather was cold and rainy. Although we brought a satellite radio, it was great to have the ability to watch some TV and sit in front of a fire. My only negative comment, would be reference the cooking utensils and silverware. I would have liked to have seen a little more of both, but we worked with what we had and enjoyed our three days at Cook Forest. I definitely recommend Top Hill Cabins and will revisits the facility in the future. Thanks for the great service and memories!!!

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Old Hickory despite the weather. A nice warm fire always brightens a day! We strive to keep a sufficient supply of utensils in our cabins. Thank you for bringing it to our attention, as we will make sure to check all cabins. We do work to make our guests stay enjoyable.
Thanks for choosing us! Hopefully we will see you again soon.

The cabin was clean and there was plenty of wood for the fireplace. The furniture was very nice and the TV reception was good. The Mr. Coffee was broken and replaced with a Keurig so we had to go out and buy K-cups and we bought some kindling while we were out. I slept very well but a couple of the mattresses could be updated. Hidden Oaks cabin is in a fairly secluded, very beautiful spot among the pine forest. The porch on the back has a nice view of the forest behind it. We had a great weekend!

We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at our cabins. We have new mattresses on order as we listen to customer feed back and follow a replacement schedule. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. As far as the coffee maker, if we had realized the hardship of the Keurig, we would have supplied you with a regular coffee pot. We encourage our guests to stop by the office, so we can make your stay more relaxing.

This place was just amazing. The sugar pine cabin is adorable. The people were great. Can't wait to come back in summer

We are pleased that you enjoyed our Sugar Pine Cabin, which has recently been renovated. We were glad we could accommodate your extra day. During the summer you will be able to enjoy other additional activities the Forest offers.
Look forward to your stay in the summer, as we stay open year round.

Always a great stay!

I have been lucky enough to stay here many times. Different seasons and in different cabins. The area is beautiful and the stay is relaxing! All the updates and cabin additions make each stay different and increasingly better. Thanks Lois, Larry and Patty.

Thank you for staying with us frequently. You are correct, the forest changes with the season, each one unique. We are pleased that you have tried several of our cabins as they are as unique as the forest that surrounds them. It is also nice that you have been able to see all the renovations Larry and Lois have made over the years.
We look forward to your next stay. Your kind words are appreciated!

Loved the cabin remodel!

This was our third time staying at Top Hill Cabins. We stayed in Douglas Fir in 2014 and Sugar Pine in 2016. We chose Sugar Pine again for this year's stay. We saw on the website that the cabin had been remodeled since we were last there but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The pictures do not do justice to how beautiful the new cabin is! At first when I opened the door and saw the bed right there I was a little concerned but then as I went fully in to the cabin I realized that the new design made a lot of sense. We enjoyed going to sleep at night with the soft glow of the dying campfire in the fireplace. The wood-burning fireplace is an excellent addition as well as the new, much larger bathroom. The cabin was nice and cozy for the two of us and our dog. Being pet-friendly is one of the major draws for us. Our one complaint we have is that the wood that is supplied is not seasoned and does not burn well. We had the same experience with the wood in 2014. We had to go out and purchase wood but fortunately there are many places in the area to do this. The only thing that would make this cabin absolutely perfect is if it were moved to the back of the property and surrounded by at least a few trees. If you need a cabin for 2 people, I definitely recommend Sugar Pine!

Hey Michelle: Your review was spot on! Thank you for your apprecition of the cabin. We also wish it sat more in the woods. We have been planting trees around it to help with the seclusion but I guess that will take a while to fill in. Thanks again!

Beautiful cabin for two

Very clean, beautiful cabin for two. It was very cold when we stayed there, so the cabin was cold, the floor was especially cold. The jacuzzi tub was wonderful and the bed was very comfortable. We would give it a 4 out of 5, only because the cold floor. Next time we will come in warmer weather. We would stay there again, but probably in one of the bigger cabins so we could bring our kids. Thank you for getting us in at the last minute.

We are glad you spent your anniversary in the forest. Every cabin has a thermostat for our guests to adjust to their liking. In addition, Sugar Pine has a wonderful fireplace and we supply the wood. Our cabins will accommodate up to 15 guests. We would love for you to stay again, as we are open during all seasons!
Thank you for staying with us!

10th Anniversary with Cook Forest Top Hill /Cabins

Omg we felt somewhat deceived when we saw the pictures of the Sugar Pine Cabin that was available on line. These pics made the cabin look as though it had a separate bedroom from the other areas while it was really a one room studio. Next, the cable had no signal for satellite for the entire stay and weather conditions were not that bad, however we did watch our DVDs several times. The Jacuzzi was a bathtub with yellow water. I do want to say that Patty was very pleasant when she greeted us and helped with all our needs. My sympathy goes to Lois and her family. All of the restaurants on the property were closed for the season. We were never given this honest information. So we spent most of our anniversary in bed with our dog, lol. I doubt we will reserve again but it was great to get away

Hello Renee: Thank you for your review. We do recommend early communications with our office when you have issues in the cabins - TV and Water. The TV is satellite and could have easily been fixed by the maintenance man. The same is true of the water system which is a well and a water conditioner. We cannot read your mind. The same goes for when you arrived and discovered the cabin was not as desired. We could have easily have moved you to a different cabin. Yes, Sugar Pine Cottage has been remodeled to be a suite.
As far as restaurants, Trail's End is open on weekends in the winter, it is next to our property. Country Inn, 3 miles from the cabin, is open most days of the week. Again, it would have helped you find an OPEN restaurant if you had talked to the manager in the office.
Lastly, let us discuss you as a guest. We do not usually have guests drive all through our lawns, even in the Winter. You and your husband drove over the septic system --- Yes, the cabins are in the country and there are no city sewage services ----. You could quite easily have damaged that system and we will not know until spring. You did cause lawn damage when your car was stuck making huge ruts in the lawn. We had decided not to charge you for these damages but maybe we were wrong.
